Awake
5.34am. Awake, with a two-and-a-half week old baby snuffling and suckling by my side. I've stopped feeling tired.
Lying down, emailing into Posterous on an iPhone at my mother-in- law's. Home for Christmas with the family. The first thing people ask is "are you sleeping?". They usually then proceed to describe how much they suffered in the nights, dare I say, almost with a sense of glee that it's someone else's lot and not their's anymore. Rani spoke today of feeling sheer bliss, awake in the darkness, the only soul in the world who could give nourishment to her little one. Perspective is everything. Besides, it's really not been so bad. Yesterday, Roshnii awoke in the small hours to find Surya latched on and feeding himself. Fast learner. He'll go far. 6.01am. Mum and babe now gently snoring by my side. I think I'll join them.
